NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service manages 870 parks, reserves and other protected areas covering more than 7 million hectares of land across New South Wales. Across those parks sits an extraordinary volume of data - biodiversity records, fire history, visitor operations, asset management, licensing and compliance - spread across more than 20 legacy systems accumulated over decades. The data was there. The insight was not. Getting a complete picture of any park, species, threat or operational area required manual effort across multiple systems - effort that took time away from the conservation work the agency exists to do.
